Chaos Space Marines faction overview
The Chaos Space Marines are the Heretic Astartes — fallen warriors of the original Traitor Legions and renegade chapters, serving the Ruinous Powers. The range covers Legionaries, Chosen, Havocs, Terminators, Helbrutes, Daemon Princes, and Forge World Forgefiends and Maulerfiends.
Buying advice for second-hand collectors
The current multipart Legionary kit replaced 20+ year old sculpts — pre-2022 CSM bodies are still legal but visibly older. Chosen, Possessed and the new Master of Possession remain hot second-hand. Look for complete Havoc weapon options (autocannons, lascannons, missile launchers) when buying loose lots.
Collecting & army-building advice
Pick a Legion identity early: Black Legion, Iron Warriors, Night Lords, Alpha Legion and Word Bearers all have distinct paint and conversion conventions. Most veteran CSM armies use Legionaries as troops, two squads of Chosen, a Helbrute, a Daemon Prince, and either Abaddon or a custom Chaos Lord.
Popular units & kits

- Legionaries (current plastic)

Frequently asked questions
- Are old Chaos Space Marine sculpts still legal?
- Yes — the 1998-era plastic CSM kit and all subsequent variants share the same Legionary warscroll. Many veteran armies still field them happily.
- Do I need a god-specific Legion (Death Guard, Thousand Sons)?
- No. Generic Heretic Astartes (Black Legion, Red Corsairs, custom warbands) have their own full codex and don't need any Mark of Chaos.
- Which CSM kits hold the most value?
- OOP metal Abaddon, original plastic Terminator Lord, and the Forge World Daemon Primarchs (Mortarion, Magnus, Angron, Fulgrim) all command premium second-hand prices.
