Adeptus Custodes faction overview

The Adeptus Custodes are the Emperor's personal guard — golden-armoured demigods individually superior to a Space Marine. Their range covers Custodian Guard, Allarus and Aquilon Terminators, Vertus Praetors on jetbikes, Sisters of Silence and named Captain-Generals.

Buying advice for second-hand collectors

Custodes are a low-model-count faction; supply is healthy but Talons of the Emperor box splits (Custodian Guard + Sisters of Silence) are the cheapest second-hand entry. The Trajann Valoris and Shield Captain on Dawneagle kits are the most-sought characters.

Collecting & army-building advice

Gold armour reward careful technique — most painters use Retributor Gold base, Reikland Fleshshade wash, Auric Armour Gold layer, with Stormhost Silver edge highlights. Black robes (Abaddon Black, Eshin Grey highlight) and red plumes/leathers (Mephiston Red, Wazdakka Red) provide contrast.

Frequently asked questions

How many Custodes do I need for 2,000 points?
Typically 20–28 models. Custodes is the lowest-model-count 40K faction.
Are Sisters of Silence required?
No, but they're a thematic and often competitive addition — anti-psyker utility plus durable infantry.
Are old Custodes models still legal?
All current plastic kits (2017 onward) remain legal. There are no metal Custodes — the entire range is plastic.
