Necrons faction overview

The Necrons are an ancient, undying robotic civilisation slowly awakening across the galaxy. Their range spans mass-produced Warriors and Immortals to elite Lychguard, swift Wraiths, monolithic Doomsday Arks and the Silent King himself — one of 40K's most visually consistent and resilient armies.

Buying advice for second-hand collectors

Necron plastics are durable and largely current-edition compatible. Watch for OOP metal Pylons, original Monoliths and resin Tomb Stalkers, which command premium prices. Combat Patrol: Necrons (Plasmancer + Skorpekh + Warriors) is the best per-point second-hand starter.

Collecting & army-building advice

Necron schemes reward metallics — leadbelcher drybrush over black primer, gold trim, then green or blue rod weapon glows. Many collectors freehand dynastic patterns on cloaks and shoulder shields. Build 2,000 points around 40 Warriors, a Reanimator, two Doomsday Arks and the Silent King for a solid Awakened Dynasty force.

Frequently asked questions

Are old Necron Warriors still playable?
Yes — both the original chunky-sculpt and current slim-build plastic Warriors share the same warscroll. The current sculpts are easier to assemble and pose.
Is Necron reanimation as strong as it used to be?
Reanimation Protocols return a flat number of wounds per turn under the current codex, making large infantry blocks (Warriors, Lychguard) very durable.
What's the best Necron centrepiece purchase?
The Silent King is the obvious flagship; Tesseract Vaults and Tomb Sentinels are excellent alternatives that often appear on the second-hand market at deep discounts when their owners switch dynasties.
